WALLA WALLA - Wa-Hi picked up a single-game victory over Oregon rivals Mac-Hi in prep softball action at the Walla Walla Community College softball fields here Tuesday.
The Blue Devils won, 14-1, in five innings.
"It was a great game," said Wa-Hi coach Jerry Humphreys. "It was a fun night to play. It was definitely an enjoyable event to be in."
The rivalry game happens once a year, Humphreys said. It gives both teams the chance to see other styles of play.
"There was a lot of back and forth in the first couple of innings," Humphreys said. "They took advantage of a couple of things in the third inning and got a run. That fired our kids up and we came out and strung the hits together. Our pitchers (Alyson Ambler and Hope Klicker) closed it out."
Humphreys was also impressed by Mac-Hi.
"They've got some good pitchers so it's nice to see some other arms," he said. "Their coach, Nicole Christian, has a great intensity and that carries through with the team. It's always good to play good competitors."
Mac-Hi is 13-8 overall and 3-5 in league play. The Pioneer return to Greater Oregon League action with a doubleheader with Ontario at 1 p.m. Saturday.
