WALLA WALLA - DeSales' Ryan Baumgart completed his almost unblemished regular golf season with another victory at a three-team match at Veterans Memorial Golf Course here Tuesday.
Baumgart shot a 79 on the par-72 course. The only match he lost was when Irish teammate Bryce Scott edged him once earlier this season.
"He's playing pretty solid golf," DeSales coach Lon Olson said. "Ryan controls his own destiny (in the postseason).
The Irish won the team competition with a 346, one stroke ahead of Tri-Cities Prep. Mac-Hi turned in a 389.
Other DeSales scores were Jerod Konen in third at 81, Bryce Scott fourth at 84 and Ben Wolpert 11th at 102. Non-counting were Andrew Hayunga, 117, and Ben Miedema, 127.
"My freshman Jerod is starting to come around," Olson said. "He and Bryce (Scott) are duking it out (at the No. 2 and 3 positions). They're looking good."
For Mac-Hi, Andrew Kain carded an 86 to tie for fifth; Ryan Bullock 93; Tavis Sicocan 104; Lucas Simpson 106; and Mike Miller a non-counting 118.
On the girls side, Mac-Hi's Allison Verady shot a 94, with DeSales' Ashton Montgomeroy carding a 108, Alyssa Lyons 127 and Grace Burrows 81 on nine holes.
DeSales travels to Columbia Point for the sub-district tournament next week. The boys tee off at 11:30 a.m. Monday, with the girls following suit Tuesday.
The following week, the district tournament continues at Columbia Point, with the sub-district and district scores combined to determine 14 boys and 10 girls to the state tournament.
