Trial delayed for Walla Walla man in break-in, assault

Patrick M. Walmsley is accused of attacking a woman in her home in January.

WALLA WALLA -- A new trial date has been set for a man who allegedly broke into a woman's home and assaulted her in January.

Patrick M. Walmsley, 41, of 37 W. Imperial St., now is scheduled for trial starting July 13. The proceedings previously were to begin April 12.

Walmsley is charged with first-degree burglary -- domestic violence, second-degree assault -- domestic violence, and second-degree malicious mischief.

Police said he entered the bedroom window of Rachel Scott at 410 Chase Ave., Apt. 103, about 1 a.m. on Jan. 16. He then struck Scott in the mouth with a baseball bat, tearing her bottom lip and causing it to bleed, according to a police report filed in court.

Walmsley then allegedly used the bat to smash the apartment's front picture window as Scott was calling 911. Walmsley was detained outside by a witness who ordered him to drop the bat and get on the ground until police arrived.

Walmsley and Scott have been friends since they were children. Walmsley had pressed Scott to enter into a dating relationship, but she rebuffed his advances, according to the police report.

He was booked into the County Jail, but was released on bond three days later.
