Dec. 23, 1997 - May 5, 2011
John Patrick Sutlick, 13, passed away at his home on May 5, 2011.
John Patrick Sutlick joined us in this world on Dec. 23, 1997, after a birth that a lesser child would never have survived. Throughout his early years he was assisted by a host of caretakers, friends and fellow students, all of whom tried to make John's life as easy, interesting and exciting as any child could have. John was especially fond of his brothers Tony and Andy, who always took the time to straighten his head, wipe his chin or play with him on the floor.
Mostly, John just loved being around other kids but he especially liked babies, whose smallest action would make him smile ear to ear. His infectious laugh was always his strong point and it was almost
impossible not to laugh with him even when it came in the middle of Mass or Father Tim's homily. Nothing perched on a countertop or table was safe if it was within John's reach and the louder the crash when
it hit the floor, the better.
John enjoyed rides in the car greatly and few things would calm him down faster than a trip to Home Depot with his Dad or just a short ride to anywhere (with very specific orders from Mom not to let Dad
spend any money). The highlights of the last few years came on his weeklong trips with his Boy Scout troop to summer camp, where despite dirt, rain, wood smoke and mosquitoes, he always seemed a bit sad when he arrived back home. Last summer, he was able to take a big road trip to Kansas City to visit with his aunts, uncles and cousins who loved him dearly but couldn't see him often enough.
The family would like to thank all the teachers at Blue Ridge, Green Park and Pioneer Junior High and his caregivers, fellow students and other friends who made his life so full and touched us all in so many ways in his short stay with us. We would especially like to thank his longtime caregivers Tonya Scheel, Heather Michels and Dr. Christopher Hall.
John can now enjoy a full life with God where he can run, play and swim the way he always wanted to and enjoy being spoiled by his grandparents who never knew him here. He is survived by this mother
and father, his brothers, Tony and Andy and all of his surrogate family here in Walla Walla.
Viewing and visitation will be held on Monday, May 9, 2011, from 4 p.m., until after the rosary at the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla. The rosary will be recited on Monday, May
