WALLA WALLA - A total of nine Wa-Hi girls and boys placed in the top three at the Columbia Basin Big Nine Conference dual track and field meet here Thursday at Martin Field.

All of the placers led Wa-Hi's boys and girls to victories over Moses Lake and Eisenhower.

The points are tallied as five points for first place, three for second and one for third. The top three finishers in each event between two teams are awarded the head-to-head points.

"It isn't always the very best that make the whole difference in a meet like this," Wa-Hi coach Eric Hisaw said. "The kids that place fourth, fifth and sixth overall may score us some points against other schools in head-to-head competition.

"When you have everyone buying into the system and competing hard, you come up with good results like today."

The boys team beat Moses Lake by a score of 111-28, and took out Eisenhower, 87-58.

The girls team downed Moses Lake, 119-31, and beat Eisenhower, 95-55.

"I'm absolutely ecstatic about today's meet," Hisaw said. "It is the best meet we have had all year. We had such drive, focus and attention to detail by everyone. It was outstanding."

Wa-Hi's boys and girls teams finished the year in the conference with a record of 4-2, good for third place for both teams.

"The boys team has faced some key injuries lately," Hisaw said. "And we lost our two meets by point totals of just three and five."

"We are going to need to have some seniors step up and some juniors do the unexpected to do well in districts - although I have no problem saying that our boys are the best in districts."

For the Wa-Hi boys, in the long distance running, Aaron Nelson and John Paul Wolpert took the top two spots in the 1600 and 3200 meters.

Nelson took first (9:52.80) in the 3200 and Wolpert second (9:53.94).

The pair flip-flopped in the 1600, with Wolpert first (4:24.39) and Nelson second (4:25.27).

Kyle Jameson excelled in the 110 and 300 hurdles. He finished second with a time of 16.82 in 110 hurdles. Jameson also finished runner-up in the 300 hurdles, with a time of 41.81.

Jesus Ceron got third (16.86) in the 110 hurdles and third in the triple jump (39-03.00).

The biggest winner on the day for the boys and girls was Jake Robertson, who was in the top three places in three events.

Robertson got a win in the javelin, with a toss of 165-03. Robertson also took second in the triple jump (39-05.25) and third in the high jump (5-08.00).

On the girls side, there were four multiple event top-three finishers.

Speedster Kailee Davisson won the 100-meter dash (13.65) and 400 meters (1:00.73)

Torrin Crawford jumped her way to a first place in the triple jump (34-00.25) and second place in the high jump with a leap of 5-feet.

Sydney Christensen provided the muscle with a toss of 117-01 in the discus, good enough for second place. Christensen won the shot put with a throw of 35-05.

Madeline Jacobson was an all-around track star with a second in both the javelin (108-08) and triple jump (33-02.00).

The boys 400 relay placed third in 45.80, as well as the 1600 relay in 3:41.80.

The girls competed in three relays. The Blue Devils placed first in the 800 relay in 1:50.19, second in the 400 relay in 52.11, and third in the 1600 relay in 4:08.57.

Both the boys and girls will have one more chance to qualify for the district meet. The Blue Devils travel to Richland today to compete in the Twilight Track and Field Championships at Fran Rish Stadium beginning at 3 p.m.

The top 18 times or distances in each event throughout the entire season qualify for districts. From there, the top eight at districts qualify for regionals, and the top three at regionals qualify for state.
