WALLA WALLA - The fifth annual Shannon Williams Co-Ed Softball Tournament is bringing 18 teams to town for games Saturday and Sunday at the Mill Creek Sportsplex.

Games begin at 8 a.m. Saturday and run until 7 p.m., and continue at 8 a.m. Sunday with the championship slated for 3 p.m. There will also be a Home Run Derby at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Teams from Montana, Spokane, Hermiston and Tri-Cities will join six local teams at the tournament. The event has grown from a half-a-dozen teams five years ago to 18 this year, with teams being turned away, organizer Aaron Rebhahn said.

The tournament honors Walla Walla softball enthusiast Shannon Williams, who was killed in a car accident returning from a practice in the Tri-Cities. The tournament raises money for different causes each year. This year, money raised will benefit the ZAP Boxing Center.
