Lyons leads DeSales to softball sweep of Asotin

WALLA WALLA - DeSales' Ashlyn Lyons struck out 31 and walked 11 to lead the Irish to a twinbill sweep of Asotin, 10-5 and 9-0, in Southeast 2B softball action.

Lyons walked eight and allowed one hit in game one, then walked three and allowed no hits in game two.

"Ashlyn struggled with location in the first game but kept us in the game with all of the strikeouts and the one-hitter," said Irish coach Russ Vera. "We started hitting the ball better this doubleheader and Lyons threw the no-hitter in game two with better control. Ashlyn is the heart and soul of this team."

Lyons had five hits in the doubleheader, while catcher Molli Lesko pounded out four.

DeSales is now 5-3 in league and in third place. They are 7-5 overall and have six remaining games, four of which are league. If DeSales wins out, the Irish will grab a tie for second.

The top six go to districts and the seeding is determined by league record.

"We are peaking at the right time," Vera said. "We are cutting down on errors, playing good defense, and doing a good job of hitting the ball."
