MILTON-FREEWATER - Kaitlin Erm allowed just one run and 10 hits during a pair of complete games as Mac-Hi moved into sole possession of second place in the Greater Oregon League softball standings with a sweep of Ontario, 2-1 and 8-0, at Yantis Park Saturday.
The Pioneers improved to 5-5 in league and 15-6 overall, and assured themselves of at least competing in a play-in playoff game May 20.
Erm struck out four in the opener and benefited from a defensive triple play in the second inning.
The contest was delayed for 30 minutes in the bottom half of the fourth inning due to a lightning strike, Mac-Hi coach Nicole Christian said.
One inning later, the Pioneers used a pair of Tiger errors to plate their two runs in the game.
Megan Reed's two-run single and an RBI hit by Shawney Garcia highlighted a four-run Mac-Hi rally in the second inning of game two.
Belen Betancourt had two of Mac-Hi's eight hits.
Erm yielded just four hits in the nightcap.
"She kept them off balance," Christian said. "She pitched a ton of ground balls for us. She pitched two great games."
Mac-Hi ends the regular season at 1 p.m. Saturday, when it hosts La Grande.
