MILTON-FREEWATER - Mac-Hi came out on the bottom of a Greater Oregon League baseball doubleheader with Ontario here Saturday.
The Pioneers lost the first game, 14-1 in five innings, and dropped the second, 21-5, off Ontario's 11-run seventh inning stand.
The Pioneers put up five hits in game one and six in game two for their six-run day.
"Obviously, it wasn't a good day on either end," said Mac-Hi coach Mike Garcia. "We didn't play that bad defensively, but we just could not hit the ball. It's kind of tough to score runs, win a game or stay in it when you're giving up 18 and 16 hits in two games."
The Pioneers scored four runs in the first inning of game two and led until the top of the fourth, when Ontario posted three. They kept it close, trailing 6-4, until the sixth, when Ontario made a stand, scoring 15 runs in two innings.
"The wheels fell off," Garcia said. "The kids were not responding well to giving up that many runs. It's hard to come back once you start giving them up."
The Pioneers have one league doubleheader left, hosting La Grande Saturday.
"We want to try to salvage a little pride within the team," Garcia said. "We'd like to come away with a couple of wins in the GOL, which is always a tough league, but that's the league we're in and we've got to make sure we play hard with each and every at-bat."
The Pioneers are 0-10 in league and 6-11 overall.
