TOUCHET - Touchet picked up its final regular-season softball victory with a 9-2 win over neighboring Waitsburg-Prescott here Monday.
The Indians had 16 hits in the win, which was a conclusion of a home-and-home series that started last Thursday in Prescott.
"We had some success hitting the ball Thursday and it really carried over into this game," said Touchet coach Gary Dorman. "Our kids put the bat on the ball and they were hitting the ball hard and finding the gaps."
W-P held a 1-0 lead through the bottom of the second, but the Indians posted three and never trailed again.
"We played much better than we did last Thursday," said W-P coach Angie Potts. "I told the girls (last week) that they could relax and have fun, and I think they took me too seriously. We played a much better game overall and definitely had our heads in it. We got outplayed."
Nicole Brown pitched the complete-game win for the Indians, and Taylor Jasperson led the effort at-bat, going 3-for-4. Jasperson also made solid plays at shortstop, Dorman said. She had five defensive assists.
"She made some outstanding plays," Dorman said. "She really had an outstanding game. She was all over the field."
Jasperson is the Indians' lone senior and this was her final regular-season game.
Jennifer Nichols threw for W-P through the first six, with Kazmira Grende relieving her for the sixth.
"Touchet's a good team and they outhit us with runners on base," Potts said. "We showed up, but we just didn't move runners around like we needed to. It was a much better game on our part, but Touchet was even better."
The Indians begin the Southeast 1B playoffs next Tuesday. W-P is the No. 1 seed in the SE2B and play the No. 2 league seed at districts May 20 at the Trac in Pasco. W-P has another nonleague doubleheader at Colfax on Friday.
