Dayton's baseball season ends in Asotin

ASOTIN - Dayton's baseball team ended its season on the nicest day of the year.

Unfortunately, the nice weather played a part in the Bulldogs' 10-0 district loss, as most of Dayton's four errors were due to the sun.

"The sun was miserable," Bulldogs coach Sal Benavides said. "We dropped a couple fly balls in the infield."

Colton Bickelhaupt got the start for Dayton, giving up three hits over four innings.

"He pitched a great game," Benavides said. "If we make those plays (the dropped balls) we're in pretty good shape. We had scoring opportunities but couldn't get anybody in."

Dayton finishes the season 4-15 overall, 2-10 in league.

"The story of the year, we had one bad inning in each game we lost," Benavides said. "If we'd stopped the bleeding (in those innings) we could have had six or eight wins easy.

"I was pretty proud, especially of my freshman who stepped up this year," he said of the season. "We started three freshmen, three sophomores and three juniors, so it's looking good. They're positive about next season."
