Gary McConnell of Walla Walla passed away on May 10, 2011, surrounded by his family and friends at Providence St. Mary's Medical Center in Walla Walla at the age of 60 years.
Gary was born in Spokane on Jan. 2, 1951, to Darrell and Helen (Canady) McConnell. He spent most of his life living in the Walla Walla area near his beloved Blue Mountains. He worked for the city of Richland for 23 years before retiring in 2009.
Gary most enjoyed spending time with family, working on cars, reading, the garden or discussing politics with his friends and family. He enjoyed spending a lot of time in the last couple of years also volunteering at The Kids' Place preschool in Walla Walla. He also
loved being a father to all of his children. He cherished all of his time with his most beloved wife, Kathy.
Gary's survivors include his wife at home, Kathy; his children, Marzieh of Richland, and Sterling of Spokane; and their mother, Karen Dunbar, Kennewick; children, Rebecca of Richland, and Laurie of Old
Hickory, Tenn.; and their mother, Shannon Ault, also of Richland; and Molly, a student at the University of Washington. He is also survived by his younger sisters, Lynn Abreu, Laurie Sherwood and Lisa Mann; and his three beloved grandchildren, Lucio, Victoria and Josiah. He will be greatly missed by all who have crossed his path.
Family and friends can pay their respects at a small graveside service that will be performed at 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, 2011, at the Mount Hope Cemetery on Southwest Sixth Street in College Place,
where he will join his mother and father. Memorial contributions may be made to the Providence St. Mary's Regional Cancer Center Patients Needs fund, or for Pancreatic Cancer Research in care of the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main, Milton-Freewater, OR 97862.
