Hazel May Howard, of Spokane and formerly of Milton-Freewater, passed away May 9, 2011, at the Avalon Care Center in Spokane at the age of 80 years. Funeral services will be Friday, May 13, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home in Milton-Freewater. Pastor Steve Lyons of the First Christian Church in Milton-Freewater will officiate. Private interment will be in the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
Mrs. Howard was born July 3, 1930, in Garfield, Wash., the daughter of Everett and Elsie McNeil Syron. She grew up and began her schooling in Mountain Home, Idaho. She later moved to Potlach, Idaho,
where he attended high school. On Oct. 11, 1962, she married Clifton Howard in Stevenson, Ore. After their marriage, the couple lived in many areas of the United States. In 1970, the couple settled in Milton-Freewater. They owned and operated restaurants in the area where she helped as a waitress and cook. Mr. Howard preceded her in death on Jan. 21, 1989. Mrs. Howard enjoyed doing macram projects,
visiting with her family and playing bingo. She moved to Spokane some time ago to be near family.
She is survived by eight grandchildren, Ricky Coyne of Moses Lake, Wash., J.J. Coyne and Tammy Schenk both of Wenatchee, Wash., Alan Heagle of Spokane, Steve Duggan of Pendleton, Lisa Havens of Lewiston, and Angela Duggan of Coeur 'd Alene; a sister, Violet Burns of Colfax, Wash.; 15 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
