Lyons no-hits Knights as Irish split

WALLA WALLA - Ashlyn Lyons struck out 20 Sunnyside Christian batters in her third no-hitter of the season as DeSales won the opener of a nonleague softball twin bill Tuesday, 5-4.

Sunnyside turned the tables on the Irish in the nightcap as Lyons rested her arm for upcoming Southeast 2B matchups to take the 13-2.

"The girls spread the hits around," DeSales coach Russ Vera said of the first game. "Almost every girl that played had a hit in that game."

In the nightcap, eighth-grader Molly Lesko, DeSales' starting catcher, made her high school debut in the circle for the Irish.

"She did real well for her first time," Vera said of Lesko's outing. "We're trying to save Ashlyn's arm."

DeSales has four league twin bills remaining, rescheduled games at Tekoa-Oakesdale-Rosalia Thursday and at home Friday against Liberty Christian. Those games will determine where DeSales, now 7-5 overall and 5-3 in SE2B play, enters the district tournament beginning Tuesday in Colfax.
