RICHLAND - The District 9 girls competed at the sub-district tournament at Columbia Point Tuesday, with 13 of 25 entrants making the cut to districts.
St. John's Erin Schuster was medalist at 93, her sister, Michal, was second at 95, and DeSales' Ashton Montgomery was third at 99.
Dayton's Abby Chapman shot a district-qualifying 104 for fourth place, and Molly Payne qualified at 119.
Missing the cut for Dayton were Taylor Brown, 132, and Kyla Ihle, 153.
For DeSales, Grace Bryant shot a 173.
"Abby had a great round of golf," Dayton golf coach Mike McGhan said of Chapman's fourth-place finish. "We have always seen the potential of some really good golf from her, but today she really put it together.
"Molly has been sick and has only played one round of golf in the last week and a half," he said. "On top of that she was taking an AP final in Dayton until 11 a.m. and literally had to run from the Columbia Point parking lot to make her 12:24 a.m. tee time. I'm really proud of her effort today."
DeSales assistant coach Andrew Adams walked the course with Montgomery.
"The conditions were near perfect and Ashton played very solidly," Adams reported. "She did not have any big numbers until the last hole, when she took an 8. But the other three scores in her group were 10, 10 and 13 on the par-5 18th hole."
District is next Tuesday at noon at Columbia Point.
