EOU to present its first feature-length film

LA GRANDE -- "The Glass Menagerie: The Film," the first feature-length film produced at Eastern Oregon University, 1 University Blvd., premieres 10 p.m. May 26. A grand opening, red-carpet event is planned for 7 p.m. May 27 in McKenzie Theatre in Loso Hall on campus. Additional shows are at 7 p.m. May 28 and June 8.

The cast and crew recently wrapped up the 92-minute movie, which is based on the famous play by Tennessee Williams and adapted for film by April Curtis, professor of theatre and speech. Theme music was composed by John Rinehart, professor of biology.

The story focuses on Tom Wingfield, who returns to his boyhood home after seven years in the Merchant Marine. He remembers his life in 1938 with his unstable mother and his disabled sister, whose preoccupation with glass animals gives the film its name. Tom seeks to atone for his abandonment of his family with the selective emotional balm of memory.
