ATHENA - Athena is gearing up for its annual community yard sale, and for a fundraiser to benefit students of the Athena-Weston School District.
The spring rummage sale will be held at Athena Elementary's gymnasium May 21 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Included in the day's events will be a bake sale and lemonade stand, and a raffle for prizes that include gift cards for popular restaurants.
Money raised will go to supporting projects in community schools. The rummage sale is being coordinated by the Partners in Education, or PIE, organization.
Past fundraisers have helped purchase play equipment, or support activities for students, said Blaine Yunk, vice president of the PIE for Athena Elementary.
Yunk said this year PIE is raising money to support the new Accelerated Reading Computer program for kindergarten through third-grade students.
Also on May 21 will be Athena's annual citywide "Yard Sale Weekend" where many city residents hold personal yard sales.
