Former Walla Walla resident Douglas L. McKinnon, 48, died May 6,2011, from a motorcycle accident in Reno, Nev. At the family's request, no service will be held.
Mr. McKinnon was born Aug. 27, 1962, in Walla Walla to Jack Jr. and Donna McKinnon. In Doug's youth he enjoyed building model airplanes and cars. Doug could accomplish anything he set his mind to do, even becoming a pro-stock quarter-mile drag racer. He loved anything mechanical, and built custom cars. He was a car and motorcycle enthusiast.
In 1966, Mr. McKinnon moved to Reno, Nev., with his mother. After high school, Mr. McKinnon served in the United States Navy, as a crew member on the USS Enterprise aircraft carrier, in the early 1980s.
After the military, Doug returned to the Reno area (Sun Valley) and worked most of his years for a GMC dealership as a quality control inspector and mechanic. Mr. McKinnon was working for a Reno auto
repair shop as a shop supervisor, at the time of his death. Mr. McKinnon spent most of his life in Nevada, to be with his mother.
He is survived by his father, Jack Jr. McKinnon; brother, Craig McKinnon; sister, Tracie McKinnon; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and other family.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Donna Smith; and grandparents, Jack Sr. and Stella McKinnon and Ed and Lillian Batty.
