Whitman College student hurt in fall

WALLA WALLA - A Whitman College student is in Oregon Health & Science University Hospital after plummeting at least 15 feet from a ladder to the pavement late Friday, officials said.

The female student was reportedly attempting to climb a ladder to a rooftop at one of the college's fraternity houses around 11:45 p.m. when she fell. Walla Walla Fire Department officials said she fell through a bush and landed on the pavement outside the Tau Kappa Epsilon house, 949 Isaacs Ave. Responders said she lost consciousness.

The student was initially transported to Providence St. Mary Medical Center before being transferred to the Portland hospital.

The woman's identity was not released Saturday, but Director of Communications Ruth Wardell confirmed she is a student at the college. Wardwell said the girl remained at OHSU, where she was reportedly communicative.
