Pomeroy sends 17 tracksters to state

Nine of the Pirates making the trip to Cheney this week are pole vaulters.


SPOKANE - A total of 17 athletes from Pomeroy qualified for the 1B state meet at Thursday's District 7/9 1B championships at Whitworth University.

Austin Reisdorph led the Pirate charge, qualifying in four events - the 200 meter (second, 23.85), the 400 meter (first, 53.25) and on the first-place 4x100 team (46.18) and 4x400 team (3:41.36).

The 4x400 crew of Jacob Moore, Mack Wolf, Tory Knebel and Reisdorph also broke the meet record.

Of the 19 athletes, seven are pole vaulters.

Pomeroy boys Jon Atchley (11-00), Kenny Carr (10-00), Jose Cruz (10-00) and Kai Ledgerwood (10-00) finished first through fourth, respectively, while girls Brielle Hocking (9-03), Sara LaPape (7-06) and Taylor Prince (6-06) all qualified for the meet.

Other qualifying boys included Knebel, who finished second in the boys' 100 in 11.98; Jose Cruz, who was on the 4x100 relay team; Derek Anderson (second in shot put, 39-10) also qualified.

On the girls' side, the 4x100 relay team of Haylee Koller, Kindsey Bott, Kelsey Collins and Hocking finished second in 55.67, and the 4x400 team of Hocking, LaPape, Kayla Morgan and Koller finished second in 4:37.56.

Bott won the javelin in 118-08 and was second in the high jump at 4-10.

"We had a lot of kids perform well," said Pomeroy track coach Adam Van Vogt. "In addition to our qualifiers, we had a couple of kids just miss. We're looking forward to state. I think we'll do well."

State is May 27-28 at Eastern Washington University in Cheney.
