Injured Whitman student out of hospital

The student was hurt over the weekend when she fell from a ladder at a fraternity house on campus.

WALLA WALLA -- A Whitman College student injured over the weekend in a fall from a ladder has been released from an Oregon hospital, college officials said.

The female student, who was not identified, was treated at the Oregon Health & Science University hospital in Portland after being initially taken to Providence St. Mary Medical Center.

She reportedly fell at least 15 feet while attempting to climb a ladder to a rooftop at the college's Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity house, 949 E. Isaacs Ave., about 11:45 p.m. Friday.

Walla Walla Fire Department officials said she fell through a bush and landed on the pavement outside the house, where she lost consciousness.

Whitman College Communications Director Ruth Wardwell said the girl's family was not releasing her name or details of the accident, but confirmed she was being released from the hospital Monday.
