Walla Walla - Shirley Gene Kern, 67, died May 22, 2011, at
Walla Walla General Hospital, 1025 S. Second Avenue, Walla Walla, Washington.

The memorial service will be noon, Friday, May 27, 2011, at the Ingle
Chapel, 85372 Hwy 339, Milton-Freewater, Oregon.
Pastor Kurt Van Batavia will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to
Providence St. Mary Regional Cancer Center through Mountain
View-Colonial DeWitt, 1551 Dalles Military Road, Walla Walla, Washington 99362.

Shirley was born November 30, 1943, in Helena,
Montana, to Oscar E. Mullein and Martha Ellen Gregory.
She attended school in Grandview, Washington. On June 8,
1985, she and Duane Kern, Jr. were married at the Hitching
Post in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. She worked for D K Food
Processing and housekeeping and cooking at the Holiday
Inn Express.

She loved spending time with her great-grandkids and she
enjoyed baking. Her desire for helping others was evidenced
by her volunteering for Commitment to Community. She
was also instrumental in developing the Edith and Carrie
Park, a neighborhood park near her home. She was a
member of the Ingle Chapel and a bowling association.

Shirley is survived by her husband Duane Kern, Jr. at their
home; three daughters: Candy Bennett, Ellen Harrelson and
Patty Hays all of Nampa, Idaho; her son, Bill Kern of Walla
Walla; four sisters; one brother; fourteen grandchildren and
five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her
parents; one sister and two grandsons.
