Members of the Columbia County Health System board of directors are Ted Paterson, Lisa Naylor, Jack Otterson, Jim Kime and Blaine Bickelhaupt. With all present Thursday the board:

  • FINANCES: Learned the District had a net income of $67,984 in April. CPA Tom Dingus reported the internal audit showed the district has a net asset increase of $158,442.
  • REVENUE CYCLE: Discussed some glitches in the billing that have resulted in bills going to patients that should have gone to secondary insurers, and some duplicate bills that went out. Customers with questions can call the hospital or bring in their bill, CEO Charlie Button said.
  • QUALITY/INFECTION: Approved Quality/Infection Plan for 2011 as developed by the quality committee. Unanimous.
  • MEANINGFUL USE: Learned Button applied for the meaningful use qualification that will show the district is in compliance with the requirement. The district has to demonstrate it is in compliance for 90 days to be eligible for reimbursement for the new computerized records system.
  • BYLAWS: Discussed bylaws. Naylor is working on updates, which will probably be considered for approval at the June 30 meeting.
  • FOUNDATION: Heard report on foundation. The board is working to identify what the purpose and focus of a foundation for the district should be as part of the strategic plan.
  • STAFFING: Learned two new lab technicians have been hired, and the district is seeking two registered nurses for acute care.
  • PROMOTION: Learned billboards promoting therapy will be installed soon. The district is also planning for a project to educate the community on financial issues that are facing the district.
  • COMPLIANCE: Learned follow-up surveys showed the nursing home is compliant in areas where issues were previously found. Also learned the fire marshal found the facilities compliant with issues noted in a previous visit.
