WALLA WALLA -- More than 60 pounds of prescription medications were handed over to the Walla Walla Police Department during the National Prescription Take Back Day, held Saturday. The medications were destroyed as part of the national effort conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration to help curb prescription drug abuse.
In April, the local campaign collected 132 pounds of prescription medications, and the campaign collected 188 tons of prescription drugs nationally.
American West Bank also provided a CiShred truck, and area residents dropped off 8,000 pounds of paper for shredding, Saturday. According to police, shredding personal papers is an important way to help prevent identity theft crimes.
