WALLA WALLA - There were highlights aplenty as the Whitman College swim teams combined to place second in the overall scoring for the seven-school, 15-event Northwest Conference Relays, held Saturday in the Harvey Pool at Baker Ferguson Fitness Center.
Of the three mixed relay events, Whitman won two and placed a close second in the third.
Trailing only Whitworth in the combined scoring, Whitman took second with 67 points, beating third-place Puget Sound by four points.
"Our combined relays were the best in the pool," Whitman coach Jenn Blomme said. "Incredible swimming today - from every member of the team."
The Whitman men's team also flexed a few muscles in the six men's events, winning two and finishing second in one. The Missionary men tallied 29 points, finishing just three points out of first and six point clear of third.
The Missionary women placed fourth in their six events, compiling 19 points while finishing second once and third twice. They finished just three points out of third.
Overall, Blomme said, Whitman swimmers turned in an "awesome performance. We really rose to the level of our competitors, which was extremely high.
"We learned a lot, and are looking forward to getting to work on areas we know we can improve."
Whitman kicks off its NWC dual meet season in two weeks when it hosts Lewis & Clark Nov. 11, and Pacific Nov. 12.
Both home meets will take place in the Paul and Louise Harvey Pool in Baker Ferguson Fitness Center.
