WALLA WALLA -- Adm. Jeff Garrett, the father of two Whitman College students and an ice pilot for decades in the Arctic and Antarctic, will speak Monday evening at the college.
Explorers have attempted to discover and traverse the Northwest Passage for centuries.
Global warming and the melting of sea ice, enabled Garrett to get from the Atlantic to the Pacific through the islands of the Canadian Arctic last month.
He will present "The Arctic Moves Onto the Map: Issues for a Transforming Region," including spectacular images from high latitudes, on Monday at 7:30 p.m. in Room 130 of Olin Hall.
The building is off Isaacs Avenue between Estrella and Valencia streets.
