I would like to invite supporters of healthy families to join me on Friday at 6 p.m. at the Marcus Whitman Hotel for the 13th annual Walla Walla Wine Auction.
Last year the event raised more than $140,000, which went back into Walla Walla as direct services for patients needing essential reproductive health care.
Planned Parenthood of Greater Washington and North Idaho works every day to support education and access to health care.
In our county, Planned Parenthood sees more than 2,000 patients a year, providing a broad range of basic health-care services, and helping families prevent unintended pregnancies through education and low-cost, high-quality services.
This is why I am supporting the Planned Parenthood Wine Auction: As a young adult, with marginal income and health care, I didn't know how to afford doctor's visits or birth control. Planned Parenthood gave me check-ups, offered sane advice and it let me pay on a sliding scale. I was fortunate it was there for me, and glad it is there for young women, all women, who need these services.
Planned Parenthood has been targeted for defunding despite the fact it provides low-cost, high-quality services to one in five women in our country. I believe in the work Planned Parenthood does to support healthy families, and I am proud to lend my financial support in order to invest in the well-being of Walla Walla's most important resource: Its people.
I am proud to support Planned Parenthood through the wine auction. I urge everyone to join me on Friday.
