ENTERPRISE, Ore. - It was 18 degrees and snow was pushed to the side of the field Friday night as Weston-McEwen manhandled the Enterprise Outlaws, 37-0, in the showdown for the Class 2A Blue Mountain Conference championship.
The score was close early, with the teams playing to a scoreless tie after the first quarter and the TigerScots held a 14-0 halftime lead.
"We lost a fumble in the red zone early," W-M coach Kenzie Hansell said. "It was cold out and after that, we started executing better. Our offensive line got it going and we ran the ball a lot."
The TigerScots rushed the ball 47 times for 325 yards in the game.
The first three touchdowns of the game, Elliot Salter punched it in from the 5-, 1- and 3-yard lines. W-M converted on two of three 2-point chances early, one by Salter and one by Tyler Peterson.
Salter finished the game with 15 rushes for 82 yards.
W-M quarterback Dallas Reich was the second-leading rusher with seven carries and 46 yards.
Peterson added 34 yards on 12 carries.
Reich hit wide receiver Nick Lively on a third-quarter touchdown of six yards to help close out Enterprise. The 2-point conversion on that drive was converted by Salter to make the score 30-0.
The TigerScot defense pitched its sixth shutout of the season. W-M allowed just one yard rushing and 32 yards passing to Enterprise on the night.
"We're ecstatic about the shutout," Hansell said. "Our kids really trust each other to make plays and they're disciplined in assignments. Six shutouts for any team in one season - at any level - is great and we're happy about our accomplishments on both defense and offense this season."
Scoring the fifth touchdown of the game was backup running back Alex Gilsdorph on a six-yard fourth-quarter jaunt.
Another notable runner for the TigerScots was Bobby McAllister, who rushed the ball six times for 30 yards.
The victory improves the TigerScots to 9-0 on the regular season.
"We're excited about the league championship for the players, coaches, teams and fans," Hansell said. "An undefeated season going into the playoffs is great for TigerScots fans everywhere.
"Despite the snowy roads, we saw even more fans make it to the away game tonight," he said. "The crowds have given the kids motivation all year long. It is exciting to get off the bus and see more of our fans than home fans at the game. "
The TigerScots likely host a first-round state playoff game Friday or Saturday.
