MILTON-FREEWATER - The Mac-Hi Pioneers soccer team booted its way past Crook County, 7-0, in a state play-in game here Saturday. Scoring three goals and having one assist for Mac-Hi was Gerardo Robles. Salvador Saldana had two goals and two assists.
Roberto Sandoval added a goal, Francisco Caraval booted a goal and added an assist. Juan Martinez, Nestali Carzarez and Moises Manon each had an assist.
The Pioneers scored three of its seven goals in the first half.
"It was the usual for us," Mac-Hi coach Jose Garcia said. "Study the opponent for awhile and then you can play them better. They (Crook County) had just 14 players and they still pressured us a lot. They never gave up and gave us a good fight."
The Pioneers advance to the final 16 in the Oregon Class 4A state playoffs and host Astoria Tuesday at Shockman Field. The time of the match hadn't been decided this morning.
"We started strong and finished strong," Garcia said. "We played the whole 80 minutes and it was a good win. We are now just waiting for Tuesday's match."
