WALLA WALLA -- An arson fire damaged the garage at 1522 Hobson St. late Sunday morning, Walla Walla Fire Department officials said.
City crews responding at 11:14 a.m. reported smoke and fire coming from the detached garage, and radiant heat was starting to melt the siding on the residence that was about 6 feet away, according to a news release.
There was no fire extension into the residence. Officials estimate $1,200 damage to the house siding and $7,000 to the garage. Crews remained at the scene until 1 p.m.
No one was home during the time of the fire and no injuries were reported. The home is owned by Daniel and Lydia DeFoor of 1684 Brookshire Drive in Walla Walla and rented by Brandi Jenkins.
City fire units were assisted by Fire District 4.
Fire investigators determined the blaze was caused by arson and are working with the police department in the investigation.
