Opal Harrison

Opal M. Harrison, Walla Walla, formerly of Milton-Freewater, passed away Nov. 1, 2011, at Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla at the age of 82 years. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011, at 2 p.m., at the First Christian Church in Milton-Freewater with Pastor Steve Lyons officiating. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in memory of Opal Harrison to the First Christian Church in care of the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main, Milton-Freewater, OR 97862.

Opal May Harrison was born on July 28, 1929, the daughter of Fred and Helen (McFadden) Demaris in Milton. She attended area schools and later married Jack Harrison in Walla Walla. The couple had two sons, Jim and Don. Opal was a member of the First Christian Church. She is a Past Chief Ranger of Independent Order of Foresters Chapter 712, Lady Elk's member, charter member of the Milton-Freewater Historical Society and a member of the Forks Friendship Club. She also volunteered for the Milton-Freewater Senior Center, Red Cross blood drawings and was chairman of the Election Board in Pendleton at the Sherwood School for 15 years. In 2000, Opal received the Golden Pioneer Award, presented by the Milton-Freewater Chamber of Commerce. She enjoyed, cards, blood drives, the Elk's and everything community where she loved to give her time.

Survivors include her sons, Jim Harrison of Long Beach, Wash., and Don Harrison of Pendleton, Ore.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Her parents and husband, Jack, all preceded her in death.
