ATHENA - The Weston-McEwen TigerScots took on the Neah-Kah-Nie volleyball team and beat it 25-18, 25-6 and 25-13 in the opening round of Class 2A Oregon State playoffs here Saturday.
"We played very well today," W-M coach Shawn White said.
The opening round included 16 teams, which have been rounded down to eight qualifiers for a round of a modified double-elimination state tournament. One loss at the State tournament Friday and Saturday takes a team out of the state title hunt, but there is a consolation bracket.
In the match against Neah-Kah-Nie, Molly von Borstel had 13 digs, seven kills and six aces on 24-24 serving; McKayla Carlin was 16-of-16 with four aces; and Morgan Entze had 15 assists, eight kills and three blocks.
Other leaders were Marlene Bodnar and Melanie Sederburg with three blocks apiece, and Katy West added two blocks.
The TigerScots head to Pacific University in Forest Grove, Ore., for a State quarterfinal match against Portland Christian at 10 a.m. Friday.
