WALLA WALLA - The Whitman College men's basketball program hosts a "Tip-Off Brunch" at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Baker Faculty Center, located on campus at the corner of Boyer Avenue and Otis Street.
Whitman coaches and players will be on hand to offer comments and a forecast for the season ahead.
The brunch, open to the public, is $10 per person. Everyone attending receives a season pass for the 2011-12 home games.
The Whitman men, coming off their best season in more than two decades, open the new season at home noe week from today against the Bears of Washington University (St. Louis, Mo.), a perennial NCAA Division III powerhouse that won back-to-back national titles in 2008 and 2009.
After playing the Bears, Whitman returns to Sherwood Center the next night to battle the Banana Slugs of UC-Santa Cruz, an NCAA DIII independent. Both weekend games start at 8 p.m.
The Whitman men are ranked No. 30 in one NCAA D-III preseason poll. They were 19-8 last season, finishing one win short of a national tournament berth.
