WALLA WALLA - The Rural Library District will hold its 2012 budget hearing Tuesday at 4 p.m. at its service center offices 37 Jade St.

The district operates on a budget of around $1.1 million, which primarily comes from a property tax levy of 48 cents per thousand of assessed value for all county residents.

The district has five branches - including its newest branch in Walla Walla, which opened this summer - and its service center.

After Tuesday's hearing, board members are expected to vote on the budget.

A copy of the budget was still being worked on Friday. Executive Director Punkey Adams said she expected an online version to be available to the public prior to the meeting.

Later Tuesday, the district will hold a library services public forum at 7 p.m. at the Fire District 4 station at 2251 S. Howard St. to gather ideas and answer questions about library services.

Library consultant Ruth Metz will lead the discussion.

Metz is the consultant hired by the WALNET library consortium to study alternative models for effective and sustainable library services in Walla Walla County,

A copy of her report is available at www.wwrurallibrary.com.
