POLICE: Counterfeit money passed at local stores

FROM A WWPD PRESS RELEASE:

The Walla Walla Police Department took two reports of counterfeit $20 bills passed at local businesses over the weekend. The fake $20's appear to have been washed to make them look worn. There is no security strip and the color doesn't change on the "20" when held at different angles.

Other law enforcement agencies in the area have also taken reports of counterfeit bills recently.

Merchants are advised to scrutinize any bills (only $20's have been turned in so far) that appear weathered or lacking the security strip.

Counterfeit currency isn't unheard of in Walla Walla, with a few cases reported each year.
