Church to host free Thanksgiving dinner in M-F


MILTON-FREEWATER -- Members of the First Christian Church, 518 S. Main St., will host a traditional Thanksgiving dinner from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Thanksgiving day in the Fellowship Hall.

The dinner is open to the public at no charge.

Extra DUI patrols planned for Nov. 24-Jan. 2

Extra DUI patrols are in the works from Thanksgiving through the New Year's weekend.

Officers from the College Place and Walla Walla Police Departments and the Washington State Patrol will commit extra patrol hours from Nov. 24-Jan. 2, according to a news release from the state Traffic Safety Commission.

Last year during the same time period, officers in Walla Walla County on routine and extra patrols arrested 32 people for DUI.

In 2010, 188 people in Washington died as a result of a crash involving a drinking driver, according to the release.

Between 2006 and 2010, the five year total was 1,191.
