DAYTON -- For the third year in a row, a free community Thanksgiving will be shared in Dayton, according to organizer Kathy Jacobson.
The dinner will be served from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday in the basement of the Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Jacobson said she and other community members began the dinner as a way for people without family, or who weren't able to travel, to share a holiday meal. The first year there were 27 diners, and last year 60 people attended. The numbers swelled due to the weather, which prevented people from traveling, she said.
The dinner is possible due to donations from local merchants and organizations, Jacobson said. They include the VFW Post 5549, American Legion, Fiesta En Jalisco, Wally's, Ray's Drive-In, the General Store and McQuary's Grocery, as well as individuals.
Those planning to attend should call Jacobson by Tuesday so she knows how much food to prepare. She can be reached at 382-1452.
