Lorene E. Girton of Milton-Freewater passed away Nov. 16, 2011, at Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla at the age of 91 years. At her request, there will be no funeral. Memorial contributions may be made to Babe Ruth Youth Baseball through the funeral home. Arrangements are pending at the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home in Milton-Freewater.
Mrs. Girton was born Nov. 25, 1919, in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Irl W. and Olive C. Cachram Treanor. She moved with her family as a child to Milton-Freewater, where she attended Ferndale Grade School and graduated from McLoughlin Union High School. On June 18, 1942, she married Stan Girton in Lewiston, Idaho. The couple lived in Boise, Portland and Vancouver before returning to Milton-Freewater in 1959. They owned and operated Stan's Cleaners for 40 years. Mrs. Girton enjoyed bowling and attending her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's sporting events. She was a member of the Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband on June 7, 1996.
Survivors include two sons, James (Barbara) Girton of Dana Point, Calif., and Steve (Arlene) Girton of Milton-Freewater; two daughters, Patricia (Jim) Small of Milton-Freewater, and Myrna DeVaney of Lincoln City, Ore.; a sister, Marrietta Stewart of Vancouver; 14 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, James Treanor.xx
