WALLA WALLA -- Walla Walla County commissioners have named a new director for the county's Emergency Management Department.

Jim Duncan has been hired to fill the position, which was left vacant earlier this year with the retirement of Gay Ernst. As emergency management director, he will be responsible for preparing and coordinating disaster response plans and oversee emergency preparedness for the county.

Duncan most recently served as emergency management coordinator for Benton County Emergency Management and was active in Homeland Security Region 8 emergency management and preparedness activities. He has a master's degree in management and operations from Embry-Riddle University and is a U. S. Air Force veteran.

"With the knowledge and experience Mr. Duncan brings to the county, Walla Walla County Emergency Management Department will continue to provide the same quality of services to which we and all citizens are accustomed. We are looking forward to working with Mr. Duncan," commission Chairman Perry Dozier said in a release.

Duncan began work with the county Monday. His annual salary will be $55,200, according to his employment agreement.
