TOUCHET - An open house on the the Touchet-Gardena Road bridge replacement project will be Tuesday.
The meeting 6 p.m. will be at Chevron station, 16284 W. U.S. Highway 12 in Touchet.
Aaron Grimm, project engineer with the Walla Walla County Public Works Department, said the open house is intended to help explain how the project will progress, including right-of-way acquisition and detour routes.
Plans call for design work and environmental permitting to be completed by this month. The next step will be acquiring right of way, which is expected to be done by February next year. Construction is planned to start in May.
Along with replacement of the bridge, the project will realign the road and widen it to include two 12-foot lanes and shoulders. A culvert will be installed to replace the overflow timber bridge to the south of the new structure.
