Mac-Hi boys soccer beats Ontario to remain undefeated

ONTARIO - The Mac-Hi boys soccer team escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Ontario Tigers here Saturday in a Greater Oregon Conference match.

The Tigers struck first before Mac-Hi ran off a trio of goals.

Ontario tallied late in the second half, but ended up a goal short.

"We need to keep from getting overconfident," Mac-Hi coach Jose Garcia said. "We need to keep that in mind and play hard for 80 minutes."

The battle of the undefeated saw Mac-Hi go to 5-0 on the season and 2-0 in league.

Scoring goals for the Pioneers were Jaime Torres, Alex Saldana and Moises Munon.

"We had good possession of the ball," Garcia said. "I feel we outplayed them. But we need to play together the entire game and be smart players."

Mac-Hi's goalkeeper, Francisco Saldana, was scored upon twice - once on a penalty kick.

"Francisco saw more action then we've been used to," Garcia said. "This is the first time this season that we've given up two goals. But he had a good game."

The Pioneers host league rival La Grande Thursday at 4 p.m. on Shockman Field.
