ONTARIO - The first half of Saturday's Greater Oregon League girls soccer match between Mac-Hi and Ontario ended scoreless, and concluded in a 1-1 tie. "A tie on the road against Ontario is good and we'll take it," Mac-Hi coach Martin Martinez said.
The draw leaves Mac-Hi in a second-place tie with Ontario in the GOL.
La Grande is first in the league with a 3-0 record and Mac-Hi is 1-0-1.
Veronica Garcia scored the lone Pioneer goal on an assist by Micka Stefania.
"The player of the game was backup goalkeeper Amanda Contreras, who subbed for the starting keeper who was taking her SAT's," according to Martinez. Contreras made eight saves in the match.
"It was a good match," Martinez said. "We had the ball on their side for much of the second half. We had good passing and possession, but just couldn't finish."
