WAITSBURG - Waitsburg-Prescott dropped a four-set Southeast 2B match to Dayton Tuesday.
The Bulldogs took the win, 23-25, 25-22, 25-15, 25-21.
"We played half of a match extremely well," W-P coach Angie Potts said. "We had good serve-receive and the passing was there, but on the serving and the hitting side we had way too many unforced errors. It was kind of a Jekyll and Hyde thing all at the same time."
Dayton coach Shannon Turner said she was pleased with the victory.
"Overall, I was happy with the way we played," Turner said. "We had less unforced errors and were more consistent. It was a good win on our rival's home court and Waitsburg-Prescott is playing well."
After winning the first game, Potts said her team had problems starting games quickly enough.
"We started out slow ... and part of that has hitting balls out of bounds, into the net and just making unforced errors," Potts said. "Maybe another three or four points to go and we probably could have caught up and won, but we just can't dig ourselves an 8 point whole and play catch up all the time."
McKayla Bickelhaupt was a force for the the Bulldogs. She slammed down 18 kills to go along with 22 digs. Nicole Lambert also had 22 digs as well as nine kills. Lambert was 22-for-23 from the service line and nailed three aces.
Shelby Smith had 11 kills and three blocks; Jessica Tate had 17 digs and was 14-for-14 in service; Courtney Mings had five blocks and a kill; Darci Hall had 18 assists and Cheslsey Wooldridge rounded out the top performers for Dayton with nine assists and three aces on 21-of-22 serving.
Ronnie Hulce again led the way for the W-P with 16 kills and 18 digs.
Kayla Huxoll notched 33 assists as well as 10 digs in the effort, Sarah Mascal had 23 digs to go along with her four aces and Amanda Cook was another defensive contributor with seven kills and 19 digs.
Dionna Baker had the only blocks on the night, with three blocks, eight kills and 10 digs.
W-P takes on Walla Walla Valley Academy today at 6:30 p.m.
The loss moves them to 3-4 in league and 11-7 overall. W-P is in fourth place in the Southeast 2B.
Dayton moves to 6-1 in SE 2B play and faces a rematch with first-place Asotin Thursday in Asotin. If the Bulldogs beat the Asotin, they will move into a tie for first place with the Panthers.
