Evelyn M. Cornelius

Walla Walla resident, Evelyn M. Cornelius, 85, passed away
peacefully in her sleep on October 3, 2011, at her home.
Evelyn was born October 24, 1925, in Wild Rose, North Dakota, to Lewis and Bertha Wells Mortenson. She attended
country schools in South Dakota. On October 21, 1944, she and Orville E. Cornelius married in Roslyn, South Dakota.
They were married 62 years when he passed away March 11, 2006.
She enjoyed her role as a homemaker and camping and yearly
trips to South Dakota. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.
Her favorite saying was "uff-da." She also enjoyed canning. When her husband was living, they enjoyed
going to and dancing at the Elks Lodge. She was a member of
the V.F.W. Grant Farmer Post #992 of Walla Walla.
Evelyn is survived by two daughters: Linda and son-in-law Mike Thompson, and Lois Volker all of Walla Walla; her sister,
Luella Tople of Pierre, South Dakota; two brothers: Marvin Mortenson of Austin, Minnesota and Selmer Mortenson of
Little Eagle, South Dakota; eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In
addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons: Elroy and Marlin; her brother, Leroy Mortenson, and
great-grandson, Landen Thompson.
A celebration of her life will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at Mountain View-Colonial DeWitt,
1551 Dalles Military Road, Walla Walla, Washington. The graveside service will follow at Blue Mountain Memorial
Gardens, Myra Road, College Place. Reverend Mike Hinrichsen will officiate. Following the graveside service,
there will be a reception at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Walla Walla
Community Hospice through the funeral home.
