Elmer "Ray" Hasbell Sr. of Milton-Freewater passed away Oct. 4, 2011, at his home at the age of 59 years. Memorial services will be Monday, Oct. 10, 2011, at 6 p.m., at the Valley Christian Center with Pastor Sam Boettcher officiating. Memorial contributions may be made
to the Providence St. Mary Cancer Treatment Center (Special Needs) through the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main, Milton-Freewater, OR 97862.

Ray was born Aug. 7, 1952, in Walla Walla, the son of Elmer and Flora M. Tate Hasbell. He grew up and attended schools in Milton-Freewater. On May 12, 1975, he married Betty Webb in Walla Walla. Ray worked as a truck driver for Bob Humbert for many years as well as Leonardo's and Smith Frozen Foods on and off for 23 years. He also owned and operated Ray's Budget Tree Service. Ray loved to fish,
hunt and tell dirty jokes with his lifetime fishing buddy, Johnny Johnson of Arizona.

Ray is survived by his wife, Betty Hasbell at the home; four sons, Elmer Ray Hasbell, Jr. of Boardman, Ore., David Webb, Jimmy "Bo" Webb and Jerry Webb all of Milton-Freewater; two daughters, Melissa A. Nielson of Milton-Freewater and Lisa Martin of Irrigon, Ore.; brother, James Hasbell of Anchorage, Alaska; sister, Lola Leach McCool of Porterville, Calif.; a good friend, Kemble Tellefson of Milton-Freewater; 14 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews including Patricia Tate Kyser of Wenatchee, Wash.; and adopted daughter, Janet Johnson of Walla Walla. He was preceded in death by his father in 1978; mother in 2009; and a brother, Roy, in 1995.
