William & Elynor Mehling
William Edward Mehling was born April 12, 1923, in Harden, Mont., to Jacob and Eva (Michel) Mehling and died on Aug. 2, 2011 in Portland, Ore., at the age of 88.
Elynor Violet Kruger-Mehling was born on July 7, 1923, in McClusky, N.D., to Daniel and Elizabeth (Berg) Kruger and died on May 23, 2011, in Portland, Ore., at the age of 87.
Bill was born the eighth child in a family of 13 in Montana, and then moved to the Granger, Wash., area in 1925. Elynor was born in North Dakota, the sixth of six children, then moved to Walla Walla in 1937.
Bill and Elynor lived a long and full life. They met in College Place while attending Walla Walla College. After World War II and graduation, they were married in 1947, in Portland, Ore. They shared 64 years together. Bill and Elynor both worked in the medical fields until their retirement in 1986. Bill continued to work part-time at Portland Adventist Medical Center until the early 1990s. They both loved camping and going to the Beach. Elynor also loved cats and entertaining their friends with dinners on their patio. Bill loved woodworking, fishing and working on his cars.
Elynor passed away on May 23, 2011, and Bill passed soon after on Aug. 2, 2011.
They are survived by their son, Bill Mehling, also of the Portland area.
A celebration of their life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 15, at 3 p.m. at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home located at 520 W. Powell Blvd. in Gresham, Ore.
