TROUT LAKE, Wash - Waitsburg-Prescott bounced back from a Friday tie with St. Georges (3-3) and a long bus trip to defeat Trout Lake 3-1 here Saturday in non-league soccer action.
"We scored twice in the first five minutes," WP coach Jay Potts said of the Saturday win. "We were tired from back-to-back tough matches and a long road trip, but we played well."
Lino Diaz had a hat trick for WP with assists from Ernesco Valdovinos, Enrique Valderan, and Francisco Gonzalez. Pedro Mendoza had six saves in goal for WP.
Aldar Escakante drew praise from Potts for his all-around play in the win.
In Friday's home match, WP spotted St. Georges a 2-0 lead but came back to get even at 2-2 at intermission. The match stayed even as both teams scored once in the second half to end the match in a 3-3 draw.
"They got up two goals early," Potts said. "We kept our heads up and got the tie because we didn't give up."
WP got two goals from Luis Torres, and a goal from Omar Virgen. Torres, Kevin Ortega, and Gonzalez had assists. Mendoza recorded seven saves in goal to help preserve the tie.
With the Friday tie and the Saturday win, WP improves to 7-1-2 on the season and travels to Moses Lake Christian for a non-league match Tuesday.
