MOSES LAKE - Waitsburg-Prescott scored five goals in 24 minutes to break a 0-0 draw and take a game from the Lions of Moses Lake Christian Academy, 5-0, here Tuesday.
W-P assistant coach Jay Potts said Waitsburg-Prescott got off to a slow start.
"We didn't come out to play," Potts said. "We couldn't score in the first half so we took a little time to re-group and then we came out and played soccer. Fortunately we didn't allow them to score before we could get going."
W-P needed the defense to be sharp, as the offense did not score until the 52nd minute.
"Our defense continues to be good even though we have made changes," Potts said. "That's not an individual, that's a group effot."
Lino Diaz was the first to score for W-P, followed two minutes later by Francisco Gonzales. In the 61st minute Diaz scored again, this time on a penalty kick after being shoved in the back.
Ernesto Valdovinoz pushed a goal through in the 67th minute and Kevin Ortega made the final score in the 76th.
