MILTON-FREEWATER - Mac-Hi broke into the Greater Oregon League volleyball win column here Saturday with a homecoming sweep of Ontario, 25-23, 25-14, 25-7.
"Our serving was just phenomenal," Mac-Hi coach Kaila Rodighiero said.
Avery Wells led the Pioneers from the serving line with a 27-for-28 performance that included seven aces. Megan Reed was 16-for-16 with two aces and Jolene Brannan was 12-for-12 with two aces.
"Avery had an awesome game," Rodighiero said.
As a team, Mac-Hi recorded 23 kills. Reed and Kaitlin Erm set the pace with six apiece. Wells had four and Jessica Dodd, moved up from the junior varsity squad, contributed four kills and three solo blocks.
Keys to the win, according to Rodighiero, were intensity and confidence.
"They deserved it," Rodighiero said. "We're learning how to win. They know they can win.
"The girls got stronger each game," Rodighiero said. "They played together, were aggressive at the net, and made few errors."
The Pioneers' next match is Tuesday at Baker.
