WALLA WALLA -- A man accused of trying to rob a downtown pharmacy in August pleaded guilty Monday.

Appearing in Walla Walla County Superior Court, Benjamin Garcia Jr., 33, of 719 N. Eighth Ave., pleaded guilty to a single charge of second-degree attempted robbery. No sentencing date has been set.

Police said Garcia entered The Medicine Shoppe at 25 S. Colville St. on Aug. 25 wearing a black mask and a gray sweatshirt. He demanded to be given methadone and Xanax, a drug used to treat anxiety disorders, but left empty-handed after an employee tripped an alarm.

Garcia fled the area in a car, but a witness who saw him get into the vehicle provided police with the license and police located Garcia at his residence.

According to court documents, the recommended sentencing range for Garcia is between two months and about a week in jail to about six months and three weeks behind bars.

Prosecutors have recommended about three months and three weeks jail time followed by community custody, a form of probation.
